Road Side Mascots – Show your encouragement

I want to talk about something that came to my heart, I was passing Chick-fil-a in Morristown, TN on April 7, 2014. I saw the Chick-fil-a cow standing out side. I beeped as I passed. I wished I got a picture then, but I wasn’t able to.

Do you take your time to beep at these mascots that are on the side of the road? That beeping may help brighten their day and offer encouragement for them being outside like that. Most of these people are out in hot weather or even cold weather.

I know we see the chicken for Zaxby’s, Liberty Tax’s Lady Liberty mascots, the sign wavers for Little Ceasers Pizza and more. I try to beep at them when I see them as I pass them. These men or women usually make minimum wage and I know most would love to be encouraged. Just think, don’t you like to be encouraged?

I  have had this blog post in the works for awhile now, as you can see April 7, 2014. Today, June 28, 2014, I saw the Long John Silver’s mascot in Dandrige TN for the Free Fish & Fries. I asked if I could take a picture and Baedron, thanks to his wife who gave me the correct spelling so I updated in this blog post she commented on my Facebook page, gladly said I could. As I told him I did a Christian Blog, he said 1 Corinthians 10:31. I asked him what that says, he replied whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.”

So I asked if he was saved? He said yes, I am. I am also a youth minister. I asked where he is from, he said Lenoir City, TN. Awesome!

Baedron shows that it doesn’t matter what you do in life, you have to do it for the glory of God.

I asked Baedron and told him premise of this blog post to offer encouragement. I asked if people waving and beeping at him, offers encouragement. He replied back that it did.

Going inside the cashier, she was dressed like a pirate too for the occasion. I told her I liked her outfit. I got to tell people about International Talk Like A Pirate Day a couple years or so ago, I dressed like a pirate and went to a few Krispy Kreme’s to get the dozen donuts. I ended up with 3-4 dozen from area shops and took them to church for the snack that day. If I really thought about it, I should have dressed in my pirate outfit. It says that I am a saved pirate. I want to take a picture of me in and post it with a blog post that I am working on. (Follow my blog so you won’t miss that post)

If you have time, try to stop and talk to them. Offer words of encouragement. Maybe even a good way to witness to them.

So HONK the next time you pass one of these road side mascots or better yet, go and talk to them. Encourage them and/or witness to them.

If you are a road side mascot does the waving or the beeping help encourage you? Does it uplift you as people pass? Can you name any other type of road side mascots or sign wavers, etc.? I want to hear from you. Comments are welcome.

The below info was added after this blog post was already published. I felt that I should add to this post.

Becky a former coworker of mine sure that she give them ice cold water.

Baedron shared on his Facebook wall this …

While standing at the road dressed as a pirate and holding balloons passers by will either honk and smile, ignore you, laugh at you, ask for a picture, witness to you because all heathens wear pirate costumes, or offer you money because it is hot outside.

He also shares these two comments on that post of his on Facebook,

I had several people go out of their way to witness to me… It was a great opportunity for me to do the same. It is very comforting to know that God can inspire and encourage through acts as simple as waving and smiling while being dressed in a pirate costume out of your comfort zone. Overall, I am hopeful that the Dandride community got a chuckle as well as a bunch of free fish.

I recommend that EVERYONE takes an opportunity to stand by the roadside and wave as a mascot. You never know just whom might be sent into your path and for what reason.

I bet it would be interesting to stand as a mascot and have people come talk to you, take your picture, witness to you and you can witness to them. God places people in our lives for a reason, we never know that that reason may be. God does! Thanks Baedron and God Bless!
