Priorities

Today’s blog I want to share about Priorities. I am going to share some notes that I have taken from when I want on the Walk to Emmaus. I went on Walk 32 from the Great Smoky Mountain Emmaus Community. This walk occurred in 1998. Yes, I still have my notes, I even have my Agape Gifts.

What is Agape gifts?

Well, Agape is God Love. These are gifts given to you while you are on your walk, to encourage you, show you love, support and more.

Well now on to first talk we did …

Priorities

This priorities talk was presented to us by Lee Carleston.

When we set priorities we can ask us some basic questions …
  1. Who am I?
  2. Where am I going?
  3. What does life mean to me?
  4. Where do we get joy or sorrow?
  5. What do we hang onto?
  6. What habits do we have? Pleasures? Talents? etc.

When you set priorities you need to put in your big rocks first. Like you would fill a bowl, you start off with the biggest items first then work down to the smallest.

We put them in priority by superiority to rank, ratings and attention given, to name a few. We usually rank our priorities by thinking. Usually based on values, beliefs, ideas and commitment. What are we willing to work for? Put money into?

Our priorities gives us motivation to reach goals. If it don’t motivate you. It is not a priority. Priorities are free from circumstances, true to self, a path for your life, realistic and obtainable. Each and everyone one of us has a different set of priorities. They can differ as time goes on, even be different from day-to-day.

Looking back at the above notes, in 2012, I was like wow, priorities, I was just talking to an old coworker about priorities on the phone today, not knowing that this was what I was going to blog about that in 2012. But, for me being a Christian, and the Emmaus Walk is a Christian based walk by the way. I have set my own priorities. Below is my priorities and in this order. Number 1 being the top most important priority.

  1. God (God is always first and always will be, he is my creator and my Heavenly Father, his Church)
  2. Daughter (she is very important to me and she looks up to me as her Earthly Father)
  3. Family (This would include my wife, mother, my nieces, dad, etc.)
  4. Work (I do have to provide for my family, give God his money back to him to help my church).
  5. Anything else would continue to go down here …

Being a Christian we owe it to God to make Him first and keep in first. Do all we can do for his church. After all the Church is like the Bride to Christ. If you hate the church you also hate Jesus. Remember, God gave his only son to die on the cross for our sins. Jesus is the one who died on our behalf so we can have everlasting life with him. That is enough for me to put Him first above all things.

My question is to you … Is God first? Or do you put Him aside and on the backburner? I pray that you make Him First! Just like relationships Christ is First before the other person.

What if God gives us back only the time we give to Him, how much time would He give to you?

Just Added:

The men who couldn’t pray one hour with Jesus, were the same men who had no trouble fishing all night. Priorities matter!

If you want to go to Church you will. The reason you don’t, is because you don’t want to. People do what they want. Again priorities matter!
