National Lighthouse Day

It was on this day in 1789, that Congress approved an Act for the establishment and support of lighthouse, beacons, buoys and public piers. In Celebration of the 200th Anniversary of the signing of the Act and the commissioning of the first Federal lighthouse, Congress passed a resolution which designated August 7, 1989 as National Lighthouse Day.1

I know my sister, Sherrie, likes nautical themed nick-knacks. She had an awesome painting in her dining room of her old mobile home. My father-in-love (father-in-law) also loves lighthouses too.

A lighthouse is the light or a guide for boats out on sea to know where the shore is. You can say that Jesus is our lighthouse. He is the one that lit the way for us to go. We must follow His light and His way. We also need to let His light shine in us for others to see and know the way too. Jesus told us he is the light of the world. Jesus is the most powerful lighthouse!

So, I encourage you to let your light shine before men. Let them see Jesus in you! In a lot cases you are the only Jesus that some people will see. Actions speak louder than words! This has been a holiday blog post and also some food for thought.

The darker the world gets, the brighter the light shines. We must be a lighthouse to those lost so they can see their way to the Cross to see Jesus and what He done for them.

Celebrated annually on August 7, National Lighthouse Day, a day that honors the beacon of light that, for hundreds of years, has symbolized safety and security for ships and boats at sea. At one time, the beacon of light could be found across almost all of America’s shorelines.

A lighthouse, described as a tower, building or any other type of structure that is designed to emit light from a system of lamps and lenses and used as an aid to navigation for maritime pilots at sea or on inland waterways.

Lyrics to My Lighthouse by Rend Collective

In my wrestling and in my doubts
In my failures You won’t walk out
Your great love will lead me through
You are the peace in my troubled sea [x2] In the silence, You won’t let go
In the questions, Your truth will hold
Your great love will lead me through
You are the peace in my troubled sea [x2]
[chorus]
My lighthouse, my lighthouse
Shining in the darkness. I will follow You
My lighthouse, my lighthouse
I will trust the promise.
You will carry me safe to shore (oh-oh-oh-oh-oh)
Safe to shore (oh-oh-oh-oh-oh) [x2]
Safe to shore

I won’t fear what tomorrow brings
With each morning I’ll rise and sing
My God’s love will lead me through
You are the peace in my troubled sea [x2] (You are my light)

[chorus]

Fire before us. You’re the brightest
You will lead us through the storms

[above two lines 4x]

[chorus]
