The LSD of the Bible

The LSD of the Bible as found in James 1. I am not talking about the drug LSD but three words in the Bible that make the acronym LSD.

The LSD of the Bible

The LSD of the Bible

This is found in one verse of the Bible. In the Book of James. Some say James was written around 60 AD, while others say as early as 40 AD.  Some say the writer was James the half-brother of Jesus, while others say it was James the brother of John.

The Epistle of James is a known as a general epistle. An Epistle is a letter. This epistle was not aimed at any church. In James 1:15 it talks about three things here. These three things leads one to another thing.

Lust

Lust begins with letter L. So we will first talk about lust. Lust is not only sexual desires, but it can be other types of desires. It is like a very intense desire for something. These desires are things that are not of God. Lust would be the works of the flesh. Things that the flesh desires but not the spirit desires.  Here are some works of the flesh as found in Galatians 5:19-21.

Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies,Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.

One thing about lust is people too often confuse it with love.

Sin

Sin beings with the letter S. Here in James it shows us that once we have lust, the desires comes into our heart. We often will act in that lust. The acting out of the lust is called Sin. Sin is missing the mark. It is a form of rebellion from God.

[pullquote]Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death. James 1:15 KJV[/pullquote]

Sin is a spal in the face of  Holy, Righteous God. John shows us that sin is all unrighteousness. All unrighteousness is sin: and there is a sin not unto death. (See 1 John 5:17) Sin first entered the world through Adam and has been since passed on through his seed to us.

Also note, secret sin on earth is an open scandal in Heaven. God hears all. He also sees also. Not mention God knows all. There is nothing we can hide from God. We may think no one knows, but God does!  Sin has an effect on the body physically, spiritually, mentally and emotionally.

Here is an old quote, often used. Sin will take you farther than you want to go, keep you longer than you want to stay, and cost you more than you want to pay.

All sin is against God. Sin also will affect our job, our family, our worship, our fellowship, our prayer life and much more.

Death

Death beings with the letter D. Once sin is conceived that will bring forth death. For the wages of sin is death. Romans 6:23. Because sin entered the world through Adam. That sin is passed onto us. Sin brings death to us all. The Bible is also clear that all have sinned. See Romans 3:23.

Just like the LSD drug will kill you, so will the LSD of the Bible too. That is Lust, Sin and Death. Lust will cause us to sin and that sin brings forth death.

We have two destinations when we die. We will face judgement. See Romans 9:27 And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment: We will face God for all things that we did that we shouldn’t do, just the same as things we didn’t do that we should have done too.

Great news!

I do bring you great news though. God sent His Son Jesus Christ, to die for us. He became sin for us. We must accept Him and what He did for us. We must accept that He died for us. Jesus became the sacrificial lamb for us. His precious blood was shed on the Cross. He was buried and arose the third day. We must also confess our sins and repent or turn away from our sins. If we reject Jesus, we will spend eternity in hell. See Your Final Destination.

Both my pastor, Bob Neal, in a recent sermon and my Advanced James professor, Dr. Jimmy Hayes, mentioned about the LSD of the Bible. It stuck with me and I wanted to share it with you my readers. #LSD #Bible

  1. Very good read! Loved it. The LSD of the Bible. Hmmm… I feel a sermon coming up with this Acronym! Thanks Steve, this was really good. Straight to the point. Satan came to steal and to kill, but Jesus came to give life! That is the message we must proclaim by shining the light of Christ wherever we go. Blessings!

    1. Thanks for the comment Joe. Yea my pastor preached on it a couple months ago and then my Advanced James teacher talked about it too. It was something I planned to blog on and felt more led after completing my Advanced James class to do. It is a good acronym for LSD and points to the Bible. I am sure one people won’t forget. Satan does steal. That is why our treasures are to be laid up in heaven. We must shine His light where ever we go and to to everyone we come across. Blessings. You keep up the great work at Lighthouse Devotions. I enjoy going and being refreshed with the devotions God puts on your heart to share with the world.
