Fruit of the Spirit: Goodness

Fruit of the Spirit: Goodness
Fruit of the Spirit: Goodness

22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness and self-control.  (Galatians 5:22-23)

I am going to start a series on my blog on the Fruit of the Spirit. I am going to take one per entry. This entry is on Goodness.

According to BibleGateway.com the word goodness is used 19 times in the NIV and 48 times in the KJV. I also decided to check the Amplified Bible and it shows the word 52 times in the Bible. Now if we just use the word “good”, which will include goodness, it shows 610 times in the NIV; 778 in the KJV; and 825 in the Amplified.

And the LORD said, “I will cause all my goodness to pass in front of you, and I will proclaim my name, the LORD, in your presence. I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion. (Exodus 33:19)

Surely your goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever. (Psalm 23:6)

(for the fruit of the light consists in all goodness, righteousness and truth) (Ephesians 5:9)

If we are of Christ and show goodness to one another, goodness and love, should follow you the rest of your life. You will dwell in the house of the Lord forever. What a greater place to be then with our Lord in Heaven. Jesus died for our sins. He showed great goodness toward us by dying for us. This shows that showing goodness shows an aspect of love toward one another.

The opposite of goodness is badness or evil. As we know the Bible it says to NEVER repay evil for evil. We are to be good and show goodness toward one another. Showing goodness, just like kindness shows an act of love. Love is another Fruit of the Spirit. Below are some verses to show about not showing evil for evil. So it is NEVER right to repay evil for evil. We are to show kindness, goodness and love to one another.

Do not repay evil with evil or insult with insult. On the contrary, repay evil with blessing, because to this you were called so that you may inherit a blessing. (1 Peter 3:9)

Do not repay anyone evil for evil. Be careful to do what is right in the eyes of everyone. (Romans 12:17)

Make sure that nobody pays back wrong for wrong, but always strive to do what is good for each other and for everyone else.(1 Thessalonians 5:15)

Seek good, not evil, that you may live. Then the Lord God Almighty will be with you,  just as you say he is. (Amos 5:14)

As I have been going over and looking for content for my blog entry, I keep noticing that all of the Fruit of the Spirit seem to relate. They all go hand in hand. They all can show each other when showing just one of them. We all are capable of doing good to one another. We a lot of times choose to listen to the World, not the Word. We allow our flesh to destroy and get the best of us. Even when we know what we are doing is wrong, we will tend to do it. Great thing about the God allowing his Son to die for us is, we have been forgiven. We just need to ask for forgiveness and truly REPENT or turn away from that sin. We have to try our best to no long commit that sin. Yes it is hard to do that, we are not sinless, but we should try to sin less.

We are to be good because God is good. God is good to us. God has destroy evil and at the end at judgement day, God will destroy the devil. The devil and his angels will be cast into hell, the Lake of Fire, the place of torture, pain, suffering, torment, and more. A place we do not want to go. So don’t allow the devil to try to convince you other wise, he will do his best to get you distracted from God and make you think what you are doing is right. The Holy Spirit is the one that comes in an corrects us, makes us know we are doing wrong.
