A 2.4 magnitude earthquake hit East Tennessee

This minor earthquake hit Thursday morning (September 1, 2016), according to the U.S. Geological Survey.  It hit 4 km (almost 2.5 miles) Southwest of New Market, TN. New Market, TN is the town next to my city, Jefferson City, TN. New Market, TN is East of Knoxville, TN. (See map below)

This earthquake received a 2.4 on the magnitude scale. A 2.4 magnitude is rarely felt by most people. According to one report the exact location was in Mascot, TN.

Check out the USGS website for the latest of recent earthquakes. According to that website, at the time of this posting, there has been 8 earthquakes alone on September 1, 2016 that had an index of 2.5 or higher. This one, here didn’t make the list, because it was under the 2.5 index. USGS stands for United States Geological Survey.

Magnitudes

Magnitudes are a form of measurements for earthquakes.. A 2.0 is the lowest on the scale and these are usually called microearthquake. These scales can go to 8.0 and higher. These are the ones that effect the most damage. Seismic waves are the vibrations in the ground and measured by seismographs. That is how they come up with the magnitudes.

Notice one city listed twice. Fairview, OK where they had two. One at 2.5 and another at 3.0.

Earthquakes in the Bible

Earthquakes were even mentioned in the Bible too. According to BibleGateway.com earthquake is found 17 times in the New King James Version.

God used earthquakes

God used earthquake when Paul and Silas was in prison. There was an earthquake when Jesus died on the Cross, as well as, when the stone rolled away from the tomb of Jesus. Not to mention, earthquakes deal with the end of times too. Let me say no man knows the hour when the Lord will come!
