I saw this press release and figured I would share. If you have a college student that recently graduated in the state of Tennessee more than likely they have Tennessee Promise (TN Promise) Scholarship and have to do community service each term to keep the scholarship. My daughter is one of these students. Here is a chance to get your hours in! Maybe you as a church, can take the whole college and career youth group and all of them can do it as a project together.
State Parks to Host Student Volunteers on TN Promise Saturday, July 23
Tennessee State Parks and Natural Areas are offering volunteer events across the state. This volunteer opportunity is to help TN Promise scholars log community service hours on Saturday, July 23, 2016.
“TN Promise Saturday is a way for our parks to connect students to the outdoor opportunities available here in Tennessee while supporting their academic goals,” said Deputy Commissioner of Parks and Conservation Brock Hill. “We’re excited to get as many students as possible outdoors and involved in hands-on activities.”
All 56 Tennessee State Parks
All 56 Tennessee State Parks are offering volunteer events. These events include clearing brush, limbs and invasive plants; planting flowers; building trails; assisting with fun community events; or maintaining historic features. Also, these projects are designed to beautify Tennessee’s parks and natural areas. Plus these events will provide meaningful outdoor experiences for volunteers.

The TN Promise (Tennessee Promise)
The TN Promise, part of Governor Haslam’s Drive to 55 initiatives to increase the number of Tennesseans with a post-secondary credential to 55 percent by 2025. It provides tuition-free community and technical college to recent high school graduates. All Tennessee Promise students utilizing the program this fall are required to complete eight hours of community service by Aug. 1, 2016.
TDEC celebrates its 25th anniversary this year, recognizing the merger of environmental programs from the Department of Health and Environment with the Department of Conservation in 1991. This combination marked an important milestone in state government, as TDEC employees have been working together to enhance the quality of life for citizens in Tennessee for the past quarter century.
