The Christian Approach to “That’s Not My Job!”

The Christian Approach to “That’s Not My Job!” — It's not uncommon to hear the phrase, “That's not my job!” Yet, as Christians, we are called to a higher standard—one that mirrors the servanthood of Christ Himself.

Philippians 2:7 tells us that Jesus “made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant.” He, the King of Kings, washed the feet of His disciples, a task reserved for the lowest servant in the household. In doing so, He set an example for us to follow—a blueprint for humility and service.

When we say, “That’s not my job,” we draw lines and build walls. We limit the ways in which God can use us in His grand design. But imagine a community where each person’s response is, “How can I help?” This simple shift in perspective can transform not only our own hearts but also the lives of those around us. If we cannot help, find a way or someone who could help.

Galatians 6:2 encourages us to “carry each other’s burdens, and in this way, you will fulfill the law of Christ.” When we adopt a servant’s heart, we become the hands and feet of Jesus on earth. We embody the love He has for each of us—a love that knows no bounds and recognizes no job descriptions.

So, let us challenge ourselves to never utter, “That’s not my job.” Instead, let us ask, “Lord, how can I serve?” In doing so, we step into the fullness of our calling and experience the joy of being used by God in unexpected, miraculous ways.

May we all strive to be servants, following in the footsteps of our Savior, and may our actions reflect His boundless grace and love.

“Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters.” – Colossians 3:23

Let us work wholeheartedly, for every task is an opportunity to serve and glorify our Creator.

We hope this message inspires you to look beyond your job description and see the greater calling of servanthood in your life. May your days be filled with acts of service that bring glory to God and His Kingdom.
