Dollywood

Dollywood – A theme park jointly owned by entertainer Dolly Parton and Herschend Family Entertainment. It is located in the Pigeon Forge, TN. #Dollywood

Dollywood

This weeks Travel Thursday takes us to Pigeon Forge, TN. I remember as a young child this theme park was called Silver Dollar City until Dolly Parton purchased it in 1986 (Opening May 3, 1986) naming it the present day Dollywood. I really enjoy Dollywood. There is a lot of walking to be done. This is an 150 acre theme park.

During my visit and rode on the Dollywood Express, as you went to back country part, you can see less woods and where they are expanding for more attractions in the future.

My Favorite Rides

  1. Wild Eagle
  2. Smoky Mountain River Rampage
  3. Daredevil Falls
  4. Dollywood Express (Steam Engine Train)
  5. Mountain Slidewinder
  6. Rockin’ Roadway
  7. Waltzing Swinger

Rides I don’t like

  1. Mystery Mind
  2. Barnstomer

Some rides have come and gone at the park. One I miss is the Log Fume.

Some rides I have yet to ride or no desire to ride.

Past Names of the Theme Park

  • Rebel Railroad (1961 – 1969)
  • Goldrush Junction (1970-1975)
  • Silver Dollar City (1976 – 1986)

Other things

If you buy the current year cup, refills are much cheaper. But, overall drinks, snacks and food is expensive in the park. If you get a season pass, it is best that you only get one Gold Pass as it gives you discounts and free parking. Not everyone in the same household will need a Gold Pass unless you all don’t visit together. A lot of people like the shows and special events that go on at the park. Christmas time is cool with all the shows and Christmas light displays. The season pas is great if you plan to go regularly during the season year.

Sometimes you do have to wait in line for rides. That is part of a theme park. Other times, rides will go down and not be active when you visit. That is another part of theme park. Some rides are only seasonal, means they operate during the summer time. Plus, rides do shut down if lightening is near by.

I do not like the idea of TimeSaver passes. It is just a way to make the theme park extra money and make those general admission ticket holders wait even longer to ride the rides. I guess you can say money talks!

I did this review on my own, based on the few visits I have made to the park.
