Acts 9:1-4 – Light Shone for Saul

Light Shone for Saul
Light Shone for Saul

Then Saul, still breathing threats and murder against the disciples of the Lord, went to the high priest  and asked letters from him to the synagogues of Damascus, so that if he found any who were of the Way, whether men or women, he might bring them bound to Jerusalem.

As he journeyed he came near Damascus, and suddenly a light shone around him from heaven. Then he fell to the ground, and heard a voice saying to him, “Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting Me?”

Acts 9:1-4 NKJV

A lot of people believe they are doing the right thing, but they are not.

The Gospel divides believers and non-believers. It is gives us a conviction.

Light reveals while dark conceals!

We all need light exposure. Light exposure helps us become better Christians. Exposing ourselves to the Word of God is a good way to expose the light to our selves. That exposure can be hurtful, painful, uncomfortable and more.  That light exposure helps steer us in the path God attends us to go.

A reason we usually don’t want to come out of the light is because we can’t take it. We want to stay hidden. We don’t want others to know what we have done. We don’t want to change. Maybe we don’t understand.

In Him was life, and the life was the light of men. And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it.

John 1:4-5 NKJV

Being humble is a way to show we are a Christian. Give our ego over to Jesus.

See …

  • 1 Corinthians 15:9 – Least of the Apostles
  • Ephesians 3:8 – Least of the Saints
  • 1 Timothy 1:15 – Chief Sinners (Humility)

Humility is not a weakness. If you allow it to be a weakness then people can run all over you. Humility shows maturity in your Christian life.

A stronger person is willing to lay down pride.

Jesus is the greatest change agent!

Folks don’t like change.

We are to have a child like surrender to God. 2 Corinthians 11:5.

Remember it is not about our happiness or even our sadness. It is all about the advancement of the Kingdom of God.

Sure we do live in a fallen world.

Saul began to preach the Word of God after he saw the light. (Acts 9:20). After he saw the light, the light of Christ, he stopped persecuting Christians and became a Christian. He also then became known as Paul.

Those in ministry program stats. My pastor shared these, not sure where he got these.

  • 5% believe in the Creation Story
  • 11% believe in Heaven
  • 11% believe in Hell
  • 21% believe God hears our prayers

Today it seems more and more people are just doing ministry for a job, not for the Word of God. We need more Paul like Teachers. (Saul and Paul are the same person).

Be faithful! Be Dependable! Be Sacrificial!

Fight the good fight! 2 Timothy 4:6-8. Prepare and get you and everyone ready for the coming of Christ.

These are my notes that I took from Pastor Bob Neal at Piedmont Baptist Church on March 18, 2012 from the evening service. I first published March 25, 2013. Republishing on August 22, 2015.
